With our clients’ complex personal stories in mind, we created this series of self-directed e-Learning modules to help front line service providers deliver care that is compassionate, equitable, stigma-free and rooted in the principles of harm reduction.

E-LEARNING: Providing services to older adults living with hiv
The SHARP Foundation, The Centre for Sexuality, and Mount Royal University partnered together to offer these learning modules for Providing Services to Older Adults Living with HIV.
Overall course description: While once considered to be a virus that only affected younger populations, researchers predict that one in six people living with HIV in Canada will be 50 years of age or older by the year 2025. This course is designed to prepare service providers to work with older adults living with HIV in a respectful and inclusive manner. Increase your awareness of this diverse population and the challenges they face. Learn to identify and reduce stigma related to HIV and aging. Explore how service providers can respect and empower older adults living with HIV in their organizations.
Module 1: In this module we will discuss the diverse population of older adults who live with HIV and the biological, psychological, social, and structural challenges faced by this population.
Module 2: In this module we will provide an in-depth look at stigma experienced by older adults living with HIV. We will explore how to identify the different types of stigma, the impact of stigma on older adults living with HIV, and interventions to reduce stigma related to HIV and aging.
Module 3: In our final module we will develop ways to foster respectful environments and provide inclusive services for older adults living with HIV.
