The SHARP Foundation (charitable registration number 897948436RR0001) is continuing to grow to better meet the needs of the community we serve. We have an ongoing need for funds and goods to maintain our current programs and services but also require resources for new initiatives.

Current (September 30, 2007) major funding initiatives include:

• In an effort to better support clients who have transitioned or are transitioning back into the community the Foundation is seeking funding to establish an Outreach Care Program.  This program would include the development of medical, pyschosocial and spiritual support teams to succeed in an independent environment or with family and friends.
• Elevator Repair and Maintenance at Beswick House. Many of our residents require walkers or assistance to get up the stairs. We recently enclosed our elevator, with monies provided by the Nickle Family Foundation, to meet safety standards. At that time we were informed that to keep it operating it would need another $3000.00 worth of maintenance in the upcoming year.
• A case management program including a Certified Social Worker to assist clients in developing personal goals for an improved quality of life which may include reentering the workforce, coping with addictions and developing life skills to transition into the community.
• Care giving - The Foundation currently spends approximately $180,000 per year to provide 24-7 care and support to residents.   The Foundation's Care Attendants are funded strictly through monies raised from gaming (bingos, casinos, etc.) and private donations.
• An ongoing activities program to help our clients maintain physical health, improve social skills and to educate.

We are also dependent on donations to maintain the two residences (Beswick House and Scott House) we currently operate. This includes repairs and upkeep on household appliances and the elevator; painting, replacing flooring with new linoleum and other small construction projects. Other needs include:

• New pillows (approximately 24)
• Towels, hand towels and facecloths
• Movie passes; Blockbuster Video/ Rogers Video Gift Certificates; The Calgary Zoo entry passes; Heritage Park passes
• New and used furniture in good condition, particularly night stands (bedside tables),
• 5 Bulletin boards. One for each bedroom (22 ½” x 35” wide)
• Patio Furniture and landscaping supplies including plants, paving stones, etc.
• Bus Passes
• 2 Ceiling Fans
• Paper products (facial tissue) and groceries
